Deletion Appeal Guidelines
Danbooru's Mod Queue is a manual and subjective process, manned only by specially appointed users. While this process has proven to be the most effective solution known to us in keeping up the quality standards of our gallery, uploads that are worthy to be in Danbooru's permanent collection have been known to slip past the Mod Queue Masters, resulting in the deletion of another innocent post. Deletion Appeal Process is intended to address such problems inherent in the Queue's manual and subjective process.
Please review the Guidelines very carefully and understand the Deletion Appeal Process before proceeding with a deletion appeal. Your understanding will be much appreciated.
The Known Issues - Justified for Deletion Appeal
The most well known issues regarding accidental deletion of quality posts are:
- Artistically skilled illustrations with slightly noticeable compression artifacts. Only high resolution, high quality images are to be uploaded, but there are cases which perfect quality copies of a quality illustration are just not available.
- High quality posts with some sexual fetishes that tick off a Mod Queue Master. While images that fall into Rejection Criteria generally end up deleted, some Queue Masters may not like images with some 'light' sexual fetishes.
- High quality but sexually explicit illustrations are more likely to be hastily deleted, due to concerns that Danbooru may be turned into a repository for anime porn.
- Loose pages from a doujin. These pages are often raw and untranslated, and may contain walls of Japanese (or other non-English) text which are not always understood. A Queue Master may not be able to get the importance of the page, and mistake it for noise.
- Creating pools for doujin pages will definitely help in informing Queue Masters that an entire sequence of pages are in the process of being uploaded.
- Uploaders with a bad reputation for uploading low-quality posts may be subject to stricter quality standards than normally imposed. This is an inherent quirk of the biased human perception, and is not helped fact that the Mod Queue is a manual and subjective process.
Most of the time, posts which were deleted for reasons other than above are due to uploaders not having the necessary level of understanding about our quality standards. For most cases, uploaders are requested to re-read the posting guidelines and think over why their post got deleted.
Prerequisite Knowledge
All users who are appealing deletions of posts are assumed to have a reasonable knowledge of Danbooru Quality Post Guidelines. Please give it another read before considering a deletion appeal. It may reveal more answers to why that post got deleted.
Uploaders are also assumed to have understood the Moderation Queue process. Please read up on the Mod Queue before proceeding with your appeal.
Lodgment
All Deletion Appeals are to be lodged in the Deletion Appeal thread, and follow the standard Deletion Appeal format.
- The Deletion Appeal thread is at forum #12247.
- An actual Deletion Appeal is a response to this thread.
A Deletion Appeal simply contains a nondescript post with a list of ids (post #XXXXXXXXX) of deleted posts.
- Please keep comments conscise, and to a single line at the longest.
- This allows the Queue Masters to more easily pick out the links, and also helps distinguish between Deletion Appeals and feedback from Queue Masters.
Deletion Appeal Rules
The Deletion Appeal Process abides by only two rules regarding popularity and the authority of the Queue Masters:
- Favorites and Score counts are Ignored. Many poor-quality posts on Danbooru end up earning votes and favorites. This is because there is a tendency to Favor and Vote up images based on their subject matter. However, the Mod Queue is only concerned with the quality of the upload.
- The main purpose of Danbooru is a repository for high-quality anime art, not popular doodles. Favorite and Score count will NOT be considered in an appeal.
- Mod Queue Masters' Decisions are Final. Once a post has been denied Deletion Appeal, it will not be considered ever again. The Appeal has been reviewed, and the Queue Masters have made up their that the post cannot remain on Danbooru.
Deletion Appeal Forum Etiquette
The Deletion Appeal Forum is subject to the usual Forum rules, in addition to rules specific to the Appeal Forum. Please abide by the Rules and Etiquette, this is very much appreciated and will make the Queue Masters more willing to process you Appeal.
- Please also appeal other users' uploads. This is highly revered on Danbooru, since it shows that you want a quality post to stay, instead of wanting to earn a high approval count.
- Stay in the Queue! If you want a post to be undeleted, appeal it and accept the moderator's decision. All users on Danbooru are obliged to follow the Deletion Appeal process.
- Mod Queue Masters have received Dmail (private messages) by uploaders requesting their posts be instantly approved. This is totally impolite and is greatly frowned upon.
- Do not reupload posts that were deleted.
- Posts that were denied Deletion Appeal must never be uploaded again.
- Appeal Deletions a few at a time. This makes it easier for the Mods and Janitors. Long appeal lists look daunting, and may look like an attempt to rake in a high post count. Remember, Moderation on Danbooru is all about quality, never quantity.
- It is also a nice to mix in appeals for other users' uploads with your own uploads. It shows that you are for quality, not approval count.
- Explanations are completely optional. Simply post the link. Explanations are never required, we know what you're going for.
- Specific issues (such as the image is in a series of which every other image got approved), are to be presented in a short, concise manner of no more than two sentences.
- Feedback is given only by discretion of a Mod Queue Master. Providing feedback for every Appeal case is beyond the capacity of the Mod Queue. In most cases Deletion Appeal is Denied because the upload did not meet quality standards. Only in exceptional cases, other than that of quality issues, will feedback be given.
- Uploaders who want advice on improving their upload approval count may visit the Upload Feedback Forum, at forum #45532
- Be Polite. The Deletion Appeal process follows the same rule policy of politeness which the other Forums and Comments follow.
- Spin off your issues into a new forum thread. The Deletion Appeal Thread is only for appeals. If you think of a good suggestion related to something in the Deletion Appeal Thread, start a new thread and link to the relevant post, or quote it.
Upload Feedback
The Upload Feedback Thread at forum #45532 has been set up to allow the Mod Queue Masters to give feedback to uploaders who have an unsatisfactory upload record. Evaluations on your uploads may be provided on request at this forum.
