I'd like to think the news reports about the city are real but in one of the alternate dimensions that can be accessed via the elevator.

I thought the implication was that even though Fennec is a good friend now, she actually does have a bad past. To me, a straight out lie accusing one of murder wouldn't really get into one's head, but a TV broadcast that pinpoints and plays upon the viewer's mental weakness (such as past guilt) sounds more anomalous to me.

I dunno, it seemed a pretty straightforward "Spook you to lure you into a trap" anomaly trying to kill the viewer to me. The hook wasn't that you did commit murder, but that the authorities believe you did and were certainly going to execute you if they found you (according to the anomaly). "All you had to do" to prevent this was go to the lair of the anomaly and it/they would help "prove your innocence". Most people would be quite scared if a news report suddenly informed them that they were under surveillance and wanted for mass murder.

It basically feels like one of those IRS scams, only instead of Google Play cards they want you. Considering the general nature of these anomalies, I find trusting any of them to be about as smart as trusting one of those scams (Which can and do use the threat of getting law enforcement involved to try and scam their victims, should see some of Kitboga's videos dealing with them).

If there are anomalies outside the mansion it doesn't seem like they have enough of an affect to hurt everyday life.

Still, to be abandoned by your friends because of the very natural and okay sense of fear is just mean.
"Send this one to journey elsewhere, for we have need of sterner stock."

Best case would be something like Darkest Dungeon, where she just gets fired from the team and leaves the apartment forever. Probably to spend the rest of her days busing tables under a new identity or something and trying not to cry herself to sleep every night. Or whatever it is ex-adventurers do.

Worst case... I don't think getting killed is even the worst thing that would happen to her in a place like that.
